Women's Soccer Places Four on NCCAA All-America, All-Tournament Teams

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University women's soccer team made its third trip in four years to the NCCAA Division I National Championship in 2017, and as a result of their success, the Lady Evangels had four players honored on National Teams for the NCCAA.

Brittney Stephens earned Second Team All-America Status, while Alissa Tapp and Casey Riley each were named to the All-America Third Team. Kelsey Janko was also honored, earning a place on the All-Tournament Team for the National Championship.

Stephens, a 5-8 junior forward from Moore, Oklahoma, set a new MACU record with 20 goals during her junior campaign, doubling her total from her sophomore year. She added five assists for a total of 45 points, and she had seven game-winning goals on her ledger, including one in overtime in the NCCAA Regional Semifinal win over Colorado Christian University.

Tapp, a 5-5 junior midfielder from Ponca City, Oklahoma, finished in a tie for second on the Lady Evangels with 26 points. She scored eight goals, and dished out 10 assists in 21 games played. Riley had an outstanding season on the Lady Evangels back line as well. The 5-6 freshman was a primary weapon on free kicks for the Lady Evangels, scoring six goals and adding four assists for a season total of 16 points.

Janko, a 5-7 sophomore from Mustang, Oklahoma, played primarily as a defender in 2017, but she also worked on the wing for the Lady Evangels at times. She tallied one goal and had three assists, and she started all 21 matches for MACU, one of only five players to do so.

MACU posted a 12-9 record overall on the season, and a 5-5 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Lady Evangels won the NCCAA Central Region Championship and advanced to Pool Play at the NCCAA National Championship.
