Stephens Takes SAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor

OKLAHOMA CITY – When a women's soccer player racks up 11 points in a week, that player puts herself in great position to win a conference Player of the Week Award. On Monday afternoon, the Sooner Athletic Conference made it official that Mid-America Christian University's Brittney Stephens benefited after that situation played out last week.

Stephens scored five goals and earned an assist in two matches last week, helping MACU finish the non-conference portion of their schedule at 5-1 heading into their SAC opening matches on Tuesday. The award is the fourth Women's Soccer player of the week honor racked up by MACU so far this season, and the second for Stephens in the early portion of the season.

Stephens started the week with a relatively short afternoon, but she did damage in her time on the field in Manhattan, Kansas at Manhattan Christian College. Stephens scored a goal and picked up an assist for a three point effort, but her week was just getting started. On Saturday in just the third home match of the season for the Lady Evangels, Stephens exploded, scoring four times in the opening 45 minutes, pushing her weekly totals to five goals and 11 points.

Stephens and the Lady Evangels will open SAC play on the road in Plainview, Texas on Tuesday against the Flying Queens of Wayland Baptist University (0-6). The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m., but with weather being a concern that time may be adjusted on match day.
