Women's Soccer Blanked by #17 USAO

CHICKASHA, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University women's Soccer team knew that their task on Tuesday night was going to be a tall one. The Evangels headed to nearby Chickasha, Oklahoma in search of their first Sooner Athletic Conference victory of the season, but the opponent was a strong one in the NAIA #17 Drovers of the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma.

MACU (3-6, 0-3 SAC) kept the Drovers in check for the first 25 minutes, but once USAO (9-3, 1-1 SAC) found their rhythm, the Drovers took command, winning the match 8-0.

USAO took advantage of a corner kick in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead, but MACU kept the margin at 1-0 for most of the rest of the half. In the 27th minute, however, Emma Rice cashed in her first of two goals in the game, and USAO started to stretch the margin immediately. Cristina Ramos and Makena Wood both scored before the half, and at intermission, USAO led 4-0.

Makenzie Holub scored in the 51st minute to open the second half scoring, and Rice added her second moments later before Lindsay Daugherty and Janae Sanchez wrapped up the scoring and USAO took the win 8-0.

Brandi Hutchison earned her fourth shutout, making a single save in the match, while Jenniver Starwalt made 14 saves for MACU in only 85 minutes of play before yielding to Natalya Burke for the final five minutes of play.

MACU was scheduled to play at Bacone College on Saturday, but the Warriors were unable to field a team this fall, so the Evangels will be awarded a forfeit victory that will improve their record to 4-6 on the year at the scheduled game time. The Evangels will next take the field on Tuesday afternoon at home when they play host to the Central Christian College Tigers (7-4, 2-1 SAC) at 3 p.m.
