OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team to a pair of phenomenal defensive efforts last week, freshman defender Brooklyn Fink was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Fink was an integral part of an Evangels defense that pitched a pair of shutouts last week, allowing just one shot in an 11-0 victory over Bacone College on Oct. 8 before returning to SAC play with a dominant 4-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God, allowing just two off-target shots in the winning effort.
The Moore, Okla. native has been a staple of the Evangels fantastic defensive backfield that is only conceding 1.18 goals per game on 9.2 shots per contest through MACU's first 11 games of the season.
Fink logged 88 minutes for the Evangels in the win over SAGU while playing 56 minutes in the victory over Bacone.
The award is Fink's first weekly collegiate award and is the third MACU player to receive an SAC Player of the Week award in 2019 after Kyleigh Gibson and Jennifer Starwalt received the offensive and defensive honors on Sept. 9.
Fink and the Evangels defense will seek their third straight shutout tomorrow as Mid-America Christian will head to Bethany, Okla. for a 1 p.m. match against Southwestern Christian.
