Starwalt Selected As SAC Defensive Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY – For the second time during the 2019 season, junior goalkeeper Jennifer Starwalt was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Moore, Okla. native continues to put together the finest season of her career after leading the Evangels defense to a 3-0 victory at Southwestern Christian on Oct. 15. Starwalt recorded three saves and pitched her fourth shutout of the 2019 season, including a string of three straight matches with a shutout. Starwalt currently ranks third in the SAC with a 1.14 goals against average on a .759 save percentage.

Starwalt was the recipient of the SAC Defensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 9 after pitching a four-save shutout over Sterling College and gave up just one goal on a penalty kick in a 4-1 win at Arizona Christian the previous week.

It is the third SAC Defensive Player of the Week and the fourth award overall that the Evangels have received in 2019 after Bayleigh Fink earned the award last week and Kyleigh Gibson was selected as the SAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9.

The third-year starter has been skyrocketing up the Mid-America Christian record books during the 2019 campaign. Starwalt's fourth shutout tied Melissa Dobie for the seventh-most in a single season and is just two away from catching her own fourth-best mark of six set during the 2017 season. With her eighth win of the year, Starwalt is in the top six for a single season and is just one away from tying Dobie for the fifth-most at nine. For career marks, Starwalt's 22 wins tied Kaitlyn Whitten for the second-most career victories while her 11 shutouts is just one away from tying Whitten for second all-time in MACU history as well.

The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will be back in-action tomorrow night as the Evangels will head uptown to take on Oklahoma City in a 5 p.m. match.
