GREENVILLE, S.C. – Off the heels of one of the most successful seasons in program history, freshman Brooklyn Fink and redshirt freshman Kyleigh Gibson were named to the NCCAA Division I All-American list on Wednesday.
A pair of Moore, Okla. products in their first seasons of competition with the Evangels, Fink was tabbed as a Second Team honoree while Gibson was named to the Third Team.
A strong center back in the Evangels defense, Fink was a strong presence on the backline over the course of the 2019 season. The dominating defender led a backfield that gave up just 1.38 goals on 10 shots per game with only 5.4 landing on-frame. Fink competed in all 21 matches during the campaign, logging a team-high 1707 minutes (81.3 minutes per match).
On top of her offensive and defensive abilities, Fink also provided a major spark for the MACU attack on throw-ins, recording multiple throws that led to Evangels goals. Fink racked up the awards during her rookie campaign, earning the Sooner Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year while being selected to the All-SAC First team and the All-NCCAA Central Region First Team.
After missing last season due to injury, Gibson was a redshirt freshman that provided a major spark for the MACU attack. With the quick outside attacker in the lineup, the Evangels put together its most prolific scoring offense in program history, tallying 75 goal on the second-most assists in MACU history with 43.
Gibson was one of the leaders of that offensive attack, tying a team-high 14 goals, including five game-winning goals, the second most by an individual player in a single season in MACU history. Gibson placed a team-high 37 shots on-goal while taking the second-most shots on the team with 57.
After leading the Evangels to a 4-0 win over Erskine College (S.C.) in the first match of pool play at the NCCAA National Championships with a pair of goals, Gibson earned NCCAA All-Tournament Team honors to go along with being an NCCAA All-Central Region First Team honoree and an All-SAC Second Team selection.
Mid-America Christian wrapped up the 2019 season with the second-most wins in a single season in MACU history, going 14-6-1 and winning its fourth NCCAA Central Region Championship in the past six seasons.
