Dresel to Lead MACU Women's Soccer

OKLAHOMA CITY - With the recent departure of Zach Bice from the Mid-America Christian University soccer programs, the Evangels had a decision to make. They already had Evan Dresel in house as a co-head coach of both programs, but the MACU Athletic Administration felt that the time was right to move to a model with head coaches of both teams individually, rather than two co-head coaches.

As such, Dresel was asked his preference of which position he would prefer, and he has been named the head coach of the MACU women's soccer program. While he will still help men's head coach Mitchell Sowerby find his footing with the men, Dresel will now have defined primary responsibilities elsewhere.
"While I am sad about Zach's departure, I am excited about the opportunity to pour myself into one program," Dresel said. "There is a lot of history in our women's program, and I look forward to carrying that torch into the future."

"Evan has incredible mind for soccer," athletic director Marcus Moeller remarked, "a heart for developing players, and a passion for excellence. He has played a huge role in the growth process of our soccer programs, and it is only right to honor him by handing him the keys to his own program. I'm extremely confident in Evan's abilities and really excited to continue working alongside him."

Dresel has been at MACU since 2006 and he has served in the co-head coach role since 2010. He and Bice have helped build a strong soccer culture at MACU, guiding the Evangel women to three NCCAA National Championship berths. The Evangels are 98-75-4 in Dresel's tenure as co-head coach.

Between the two programs, Dresel has coached 21 All-Americans and 36 All-Sooner Athletic Conference performers. He has also helped contribute to some record breaking seasons on the women's side including Chelsea Swisher's 52-point 2013 season, and Brittney Stephens' 20-goal campaign in 2017.

He and Bice also serve as co-head coaches of the Scissortails of Oklahoma City FC in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), a position he has held since 2016.

"This team has a lot of potential moving forward," Dresel concluded. "With the talent we have returning and the new players we have added to the team, we feel like we have the makings of a solid group. Now it's about getting everyone in and getting to work."
