Liz Lozano Earns NCCAA, SAC Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After leading Mid-America Christian to its first 3-0 start since 2014, senior midfielder Liz Lozano was selected as both the NCCAA Division I Offensive Player of the Week and the Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

In a 4-0 victory over Arizona Christian last Thursday, Lozano notched her third consecutive game with at least two goals and five total points, netting both of her scores in the first half and recording an assist on the Evangels' third goal during the second half.

It was also the third straight game with the game-winning goal for the Aguascalientes, Mexico product, giving her six in her three-year career and moving into seventh on MACU's NAIA era career list. Her second goal of the contest was a milestone as she became only the seventh Evangels player since 2008 to score 30 or more career goals.

Lozano has been one of the best players in the nation through the first five weeks of the season as she currently leads the entire NCCAA in goals per game average (3.67), points per game average (8.67) and game-winning goals (3). Lozano also ranks second in assists per game (1.33), sitting only behind teammate Kyleigh Gibson (2) on the national list while also ranking second in shots on-goal per game (5), also sitting behind a teammate in Joanne Nakirya (5.5).

Mid-America Christian is currently one of the most explosive offensive teams in the entire NAIA, ranking at the top with 26 goals scored at an 8.67 per game clip with a scoring margin of 8.34.

Lozano is collecting her first ever NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honor as the last Evangels player to receive the accolade was Gibson back on Oct. 19, 2019. At the conference level, Lozano is earning her second SAC Player of the Week accolade after earning the honor two weeks ago after scoring five goals in a 10-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana.

The Evangels will look to keep the torrid goal-scoring pace going on Saturday when the team will travel to Wichita, Kansas to take on Manhattan Christian (Kan.) at the Stryker Sports Complex for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
