GREENVILLE, S.C. – Coming off a four-goal performance in Mid-America Christian's 12-0 victory over Manhattan Christian (Kan.) on Saturday, redshirt sophomore forward Kyleigh Gibson swept a pair of offensive accolades on Monday after being selected as the NCCAA Division I Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week as well as the Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Earning her third NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week and her second SAC Player of the Week award in the last two seasons, Gibson helped lead the Evangels offensive charge against the Thunder as the team set several NAIA/NCCAA Division I era record marks in the contest, including: the record for most assists (11), the third-most goals (12), points (35) and shots (54) as well as the fifth-most shots on-goal (28).
Gibson herself moved into a seven-way tie for the fourth-most goals scored in a single game, matching current MACU teammates Liz Lozano and Joanne Nakirya, who accomplished the four-goal feat earlier this season.
Despite taking only one shot through the first two games, the Moore, Oklahoma native was more assertive on the offensive end in her third game back from injury, attempting a career-high eight shots while matching a career-best four shots-on goal with all four of her on-target shots finding the back of the net.
Gibson also netted the game-winner for her first of the 2020-21 season and the sixth of her career, moving her into a tie for seventh on MACU's all-time list alongside Lozano.
Two of the top scoring teams in the NAIA will go head-to-head on Friday as Mid-America Christian (9.5 goals per game, 1st) will face off against Science & Arts (7.5 goals per game, 3rd) at Evangel Field at noon on Friday.
