DALLAS – The Mid-America Christian baseball team is officially off to its best start since joining the NAIA in 2008 as the Evangels swept all four games they competed in at the Dallas Christian Tournament this weekend.
After picking up its first season-opening win since 2017 over Central Baptist on Friday, the Evangels added three wins on Saturday by completing a 9-3 victory over Dallas Christian in a game suspended in the sixth inning on Friday. MACU followed it up with its first complete game shutout of the season, topping Central Baptist 6-0 in the morning game before finishing off the day with a 19-1 victory over Dallas Christian in the afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY
- After striking out the first two batters he faced, MACU starting pitcher Brayan Garcia ran into some rough luck by hitting the next batter and then giving up an RBI double to Stefon Reyes to give Dallas Christian the 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- The Crusaders put together a major threat in the top of the second when it loaded the bases with no outs, but were able to only push across two runs in the frame. Garcia was able to induce DCC's Josh Freeman to hit into a double play to get out the jam.
- After reaching on a two-base error by the right fielder, Julian Fernandez was able to get MACU's first run across in the bottom of the second after advancing to third and home on passed balls.
- Later in the inning, Grant Roberts scored on a passed ball and then Isaiah Haddad slapped a single to center to score Oliver Fernandez to tie the game at three.
- In the bottom of the third after Yan Ely Adames reached on a single and Andres Gonzalez reached on a walk, Julian Fernandez gave MACU its first lead with a three-run homer over that sailed over the high wall in left field, bringing the score to 6-3.
- Resuming play with runners on first and third and one out, Adames singled to left to score Haddad and Andres Gonzalez knocked one more on a fielder's choice groundout to push across Edgar Martinez at third, bringing the score to 8-3. Gonzalez later came across to score on a passed ball to cap the scoring at 9-3.
GAME NOTES
- Mid-America Christian scored its nine runs on nine hits and committed one error while the Crusaders scored their three runs on seven hits and made five defensive mistakes.
- Taking on Dallas Christian for the 13th time since 2010, the Evangels improved to 10-3 against the Crusaders, winning their fifth straight in the series.
- Despite getting off to a rough start through the first two innings, Brayan Garcia was able to push his way through the next two innings to get his first win on the mound with Mid-America Christian.
- With his three-run blast in the third inning, MACU senior first baseman Julian Fernandez hit the Evangels first home run of the season.

GAME SUMMARY
- Two batters after Edgar Martinez drew a walk, Raymond Palmero sent his first home run of the season over the left field fence on an 0-2 count to give MACU the early 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first.
- In the fourth following a Joe Balak single, Palmero tallied his third RBI with a deep double to center field, scoring Balak from first to make it a 3-0 Evangels lead.
- After Andres Gonzalez drew a walk to put runners at the corners, Yan Ely Adames sent a double to deep center field to score Palmero and put two runners in scoring position with no outs.
- Two batters later, Grant Roberts drove in another when his sacrifice fly to left was dropped, allowing Adames to score from second as well to extend the MACU advantage to 6-0.
- In the sixth inning, Brad White made an incredible defensive play when his high pitch went over CBC's Steven Stewart's head, but it hit his bat and went into fair territory. White made a sliding grab of the ball and tossed it over to first to beat Stewart breaking down the line to end the inning.
- White struck out the last two batters of the seventh inning to secure the 6-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
- MACU scored its six runs on just four hits and made only one error while Central Baptist tallied five hits and also committed one miscue.
- Brad White earned MACU's first complete game shutout of the season, as the Texas College transfer allowed only five hits and two walks while striking out seven in the win. White is the first player to toss a complete game shutout since Keisy Portorreal threw seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 win over Huston-Tillotson (Texas) on Feb. 14, 2020 and recorded the program's 17th complete game shutout since 2008.
- While the MACU offense was limited, Raymond Palmero put together his best game in an Evangels uniform, going 2-for-3 with a double and home run with three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Mid-America Christian improved its all-time record against Central Baptist to 9-2 since the program joined the NAIA in 2008.

GAME SUMMARY
- Mid-America Christian blew the game open in the top of the first with a four-run inning that included RBI singles from Yan Ely Adames and Andres Gonzalez as well as a SAC fly from Julian Fernandez.
- The Evangels added to it with a five-run second, notching three of the runs by not even putting the ball in-play with the bases loaded to hold a 9-1 advantage.
- After a scoreless third, MACU pushed across five more runs in the fourth inning off a two-RBI double from Oliver Fernandez and a bases-clearing double by Joe Balak, bringing the score to 14-1.
- The Evangels added two more insurance runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth before allowing one run to cross in the bottom of the sixth before the game was called due to nightfall.
GAME NOTES
- The Evangels pushed across their 19 runs on 14 hits and made two errors while Dallas Christian scored its two runs on three hits and committed four errors.
- The 19 runs scored by MACU is tied for the fifth-most the program has scored in one game since joining the NAIA in 2008 and was the second-most scored in a matchup against Dallas Christian since picking up a 22-4 victory in Dallas on Feb. 20, 2010.
- After being unavailable in the Friday games, Joe Balak made a huge impact in the MACU lineup as the sophomore infielder went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in four while scoring three runs and drawing two walks.
- Jairo Aparicio and Bernardo Moreno each performed well for the MACU pitching staff, as Aparicio tossed three innings and gave up just one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out four. In two innings of relief, Moreno retired all six of the batters he faced, five by way of the strikeout.
- In his first season as the skipper of the squad after serving as an assistant coach last season, Brett Stanton has guided MACU to its first ever 4-0 start since the program moved up to the NAIA level.
