Women’s Soccer Places Three On NCCAA All-America Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team landed three on the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I All-America Team on Tuesday.

Senior midfielder Kelsey Henry earned First Team honors, sophomore defender Brooklyn Fink was selected to the Second Team and Marga Franco collected Third Team accolades.

A 5-5 senior from Arima, Trinidad & Tobago, Henry was one of the team's offensive leaders, scoring 14 goals and dishing out five assists for 33 points, the sixth-highest individual goal and point totals in the NCCAA.

In MACU's 3-0 victory at Southwestern Assemblies of God in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener on Feb. 23, Henry netted a career-high three goals for six points. Henry matched that six-point total in a 4-0 win over Southwestern Christian on Mar. 23, scoring a pair of goals and recording assists on MACU's two other scores in the victory.

Henry was named the NCCAA Central Region Player of the Year as well as placed on the All-Sooner Athletic Conference First Team.

A 5-8 sophomore from Moore, Okla., Fink continued to be a devastating force in the center-back position for the Evangels. Fink spearheaded a defense that allowed a program record low 0.78 goals per game and pitched 10 shutouts, just the third time since moving up to the Division I level that the team recorded 10 or more blank slates in a season. Fink led the team in minutes played per match at 83.9 while netting two goals to go with two assists during the 2020-21 campaign.

Fink was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year and was also an NCCAA Central Region First Team honoree. It is the second time in her career that Fink has been named an NCCAA All-American after collecting Second Team honors in 2019 as well.

A 5-4 senior from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Franco earned her first All-American honor after turning in four goals and eight assists on the season. Her eight assists are tied for the fifth-most recorded in a single season since 2008.

Franco tallied for points on a goal and two assists in a 10-2 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 6 and tallied a pair of assists in MACU's 4-1 victory over Central Christian in the SAC Quarterfinals on Apr. 1.

It is just the third time the Evangels have placed three or more players on the All-America Team, joining the 2017 squad that landed Brittney Stephens (2nd Team), Casey Riley (3rd Team) and Alissa Tapp (3rd Team) as well as the 2015 team that had four selections, including Kaitlyn Whitten (1st Team), Rachel Lynn (2nd Team), Kaci Power (3rd Team) and Cici Mitchell (3rd Team).

Mid-America Christian ended the season with a 15-3 record and turned in its best finish ever in Sooner Athletic Conference play with 8-1 mark.
