OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian Athletic Director Marcus Moeller is proud to announce that Anthony Yousey will be taking the reins of the MACU women's soccer program for the upcoming 2021 season.
"I'm excited to have Coach Yousey join our MACU family," said Moeller. "He comes into a program with great talent, terrific young women and a very exciting future ahead. We're confident his relationships locally and regionally will continue the upward trajectory of the program. Additionally, his heart to see young people reach their full potential off the field will be a natural fit with the culture we're continuing to build within the athletics department at MACU."
"I am very excited to work at such a great university and continue the growth of a program that has already shown over the years to be very successful," said Yousey. "I'm looking forward to meeting the players and getting right to work."
Yousey comes to MACU after serving as the head men's soccer coach at NCAA Division II and former Sooner Athletic Conference member Oklahoma Baptist from 2013 to 2021, amassing a coaching record of 46-82-4 (.356) in his tenure with the Bison.
Yousey's best season with OBU came during the 2016 campaign, leading the Bison to a 14-9-2 overall record while winning the Great American Conference regular season title with a 5-1 league mark. During that campaign, Yousey guided the Bison to an NCCAA Central Region Championship, defeating Southwestern Christian (Okla.) in the championship match 4-2 in the postgame shootout after playing to a 1-1 draw in Lakewood, Colo. on Nov. 18, 2016.
At the 2016 NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla., Oklahoma Baptist defeated Houghton College (N.Y.) 7-4 on Nov. 29 to advance to the semifinal round before falling in a rematch to the eventual national champion SCU squad by a score of 5-3 on Dec. 2.
Yousey is also in his first season as the assistant coach of the Oklahoma City Football Club in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), where he works alongside former MACU women's soccer head coach Evan Dresel.
Before starting his collegiate coaching career with the Bison, Yousey had an extensive high school coaching career in the Oklahoma City area. Yousey served as the boys' soccer head coach at Southmoore High School from 2008-2013 as well as the boys' and girls' head coach at Moore High School for three seasons between 2002 and 2005. Yousey also served as the boys' head coach at Yukon High School from 2000-01 and was the Del City High School girls' head soccer coach from 1999-2000.
Yousey went into coaching after a two-year collegiate playing career with Southwestern Oklahoma State from 1998-1999, where he earned All-Lone Star Conference First Team and Tournament Team accolades.
Yousey will be heading the program after Dresel, who served as the head coach since 2010 accepted the head coaching position at Oklahoma Christian last month. The Evangels are coming off one of their best seasons in program history, completing the COVID-19 split 2020-21 campaign with a 15-3 overall record and finished second in the SAC standings with an 8-1 conference mark.
Mid-America Christian is set to open the 2021 campaign with a scrimmage against Cowley College (Kan.) at Evangel Field on Aug. 16. The Evangels will officially open the regular season with a home match against MidAmerica Nazarene on Aug. 28.
