Softball Dominates Dallas Christian 10-0, 9-1 in Doubleheader Sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU softball team put together an all-around great performance in a doubleheader sweep over Dallas Christian at Allen Field on Tuesday as the Evangels cruised to a pair of 10-0, 9-1 victories.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 10 runs on 11 hits and committed one error while Dallas Christian tallied just two hits and made four miscues.
  • The Evangels blew the game open right out of the gate. After Rachel Eggleston struck out the side in the top of the first, the Evangels pushed across seven runs on five hits and four errors in the bottom half to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
  • After being held in-check in the second and third innings, the Evangels lineup turned over and started repeating its first inning output as back-to-back singles by Cailey Parsells and Mikaylee Allen allowed Janessa Larman to drive an RBI to deep center field, which narrowly missed leaving the yard.
  • Olivia Roberts then made history once again after hitting a sacrifice fly to center to score Mikaylee Allen from third, becoming the first Evangels player in the history of the program to reach 100 career RBIs. Roberts also climbed up MACU's hits record book as her single to right-center in the second inning marked her 151st, tying her with Kenna McCoy for the third-most career knocks in program history.
  • Two batters later, Brooklyn Wilson capped the MACU scoring by slapping a single to left to score pinch-runner Jess Moore to bring it to a 10-0 game.
  • After throwing four no-hit innings, Eggleston was relieved in the fifth by Chana Wolfe, who also tossed a scoreless frame by allowing just two singles and struck out a pair to secure the victory.
  • Eggleston earned her 11th win of the season in the circle, tossing a no-hitter while allowing just one baserunner on an error while tying a season-high nine strikeouts. The win also marked Eggleston's 28th career victory in the circle, tying her with Amber Tinney for the second-most pitching wins in program history.
  • The contest marked MACU's fourth shutout win of the season as Eggleston and Wolfe were credited with a combined shutout in the circle.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its nine runs on 12 hits while Dallas Christian finished with one run on five hits and turned in six errors.
  • The Evangels struggled to generate runs through the first two innings as MACU's lone run came on Cailey Parsells leading off the first with a single before stealing a pair of bags and scoring on catcher Mattee Fry's errant throw down to third.
  • The Crusaders first major threat of either game came in the top of the third as DCC loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk, but MACU starter Avery Schneringer shut the door by striking out Fry to get out of the jam.
  • MACU manufactured another run in the third as Parsells reached on a bunt single, stole second and came across to score on Larman's second single of the game to make it a 2-0 score.
  • The Evangels added one more after loading the bases on a Hannah Robbins' fielder's choice, a Megan Widener walk and a Parsells single before pinch-runner Jess Moore came across on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
  • MACU finally got the bats going in the late game as the Evangels notched two run in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to finally run away with the 9-1 victory. Dallas Christian's lone run came on Kaylee Castillo's bloop single down the left field line with two outs in the top of the sixth.
  • Cailey Parsells put together one of her best career days from the dish, tying a career-best 4-for-4 with three runs and three stolen bases.
  • Janessa Larman continued to produce with the bat, swatting 3-for-4 with two more RBIs, boosting her season batting average to .431. Between the two games, Larman finished 5-for-7 with five RBIs, bringing her season total to 25.
  • Avery Schneringer improved to 7-2 in the circle, tossing a complete game by allowing just one earned run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings of work. The complete game was Schneringer's team-best seventh of the season and the 21st of her MACU career.
  • By getting the victory, Mid-America Christian has won six straight games by an average margin of victory of 8.7 runs per game.
  • The win also marked MACU's eighth straight victory against Dallas Christian since the two teams started facing each other last season as the Evangels have won every matchup by at least eight runs.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will have a short turnaround as the Evangels will head up to Winfield, Kansas tomorrow for an afternoon doubleheader at Southwestern. The opening pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at the Broadway Sports Complex.
