OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Softball junior second baseman Saina Willis will be taking her talents to the big stage next weekend as she has been selected to compete for the American Samoa National Team in the International Cup that will be played at Devon Park in Oklahoma City from July 30 through Aug. 3.

Formerly known as the World Cup of Softball, rebranded to the International Cup in 2018, the event makes its return for the first time in seven years after the tournament was canceled following the 2019 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Entering into her third season competing for the Evangels, Willis will join the team after putting together her best collegiate season in 2026. A native of Leone, American Samoa, Willis saw action in 39 games during her sophomore campaign, making 33 starts with a bulk load of those appearances coming at second base.

Over the course of the campaign, Willis finished with 12 hits with a double and two triples while scoring 13 runs to go with five RBIs. Willis was best known for her defensive work in the field as she posted a .969 fielding percentage, committing only three errors with 51 putouts and 43 assists on 97 chances to go along with five double plays.

Willis makes up one of the 18-standouts selected to the roster as American Samoa will be one of eight teams competing for the International Cup crown. American Samoa will officially open the tournament on Thursday, July 30 against Japan at 10 am.
