CHICKASHA, Okla. – The MACU softball team fell in eight innings to second-seeded No. 10 Science & Arts on Friday as the Drovers walked it off to win 1-0 before a late three-run homer by Southwestern Assemblies of God doomed the Evangels to a 3-2 defeat in the elimination game of the SAC Tournament at Bill Smith Ballpark on Saturday.

GAME NOTES
- Mid-America Christian was held scoreless on two hits and committed three errors while Science & Arts scored one run on four hits.
- The Evangels had a couple of chances to take the lead as Janessa Larman became the first base runner of the ball game for MACU in the fourth inning after dropping a single into right, before Olivia Roberts flew out to center field to end the inning.
- In the seventh inning, Megan Widener led things off with a walk and got to second on a stolen base; however, the Evangels could not capitalize, leaving Widener stranded following a Roberts pop out and an Emylee Campbell strikeout.
- The Evangels faced a similar situation in the top of the eighth inning as Rachel Humburg led off extra innings with a single to center field, but yet again, MACU failed to get the go-ahead run home.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning Sophie Williams reached first base on a fielding error from Larman which was followed up by a single from Jaclyn Gray putting runners on first and second with one out.
- In the following at-bat, Sierra Selfridge laid down the sacrifice bunt that was scooped up by Olivia Roberts and on the tag the ball fell out of the glove of Roberts and rolled to the right side, allowing Williams to score from second to win the game for the Drovers 1-0.
- Janessa Larman had one of the two Evangel hits going 1-for-3 on the day.
- Rachel Humburg became the only other Evangel to notch a base hit as Humburg put together a 1-for-3 day and got her base hit in the top of the eighth inning but was left stranded.
- Rachel Eggleston tossed a gem inside the circle, throwing 7.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits, two walks and tallied five strikeouts.
- With the defeat, the Drovers have won three out of the five meetings with the Evangels during the 2023 season while four of the five games went to extra innings.

- The Evangels wasted no time getting on the board as Hallie Wilson led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right, putting MACU ahead 1-0.
- In the third, Mid-America Christian extended its lead as Rachel Humburg roped a single into center field to score Cailey Parsells, making it a 2-0 ball game.
- While the Evangels were able to limit the Lady Lions for nearly the entire game, SAGU's Trista Ford came up to the plate in the top of the sixth and with one swing of the bat, was able to change the entire landscape of the game as she knocked a three-run homer over the left field wall to put the Lady Lions in front 3-2.
- After the homer, the Evangels lost all momentum and fell short in retaking the lead as the Lions shut down MACU 1-2-3 in the bottom of innings six and seven and eliminate the Evangels from the conference tournament.
- Hallie Wilson made her 11th start of the season and made an impact right from the jump as Wilson led off the bottom of the first with her second home run of the season and finished with a 1-for-3 day.
- Rachel Humburg put together a 1-for-3 day as she drove in Evangels' second run.
- Cailey Parsells went 1-for-3 from the plate and scored her 48th run of the season, putting her only four away from tying her 2022 record total.
- Rachel Eggleston got the start inside the circle as Eggleston tossed five straight shutout innings, only giving up one hit until SAGU scored three runs on three hits and a walk in the sixth. In six frames, Eggleston allowed three earned runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
- With the loss, the Evangels were eliminated from the SAC Tournament while dropping just their second game to the Lady Lions in six meetings in the 2023 season.
UP NEXT
- MACU will await to hear if they will be awarded an NAIA Tournament bid on May 9. If the Evangels don't receive the bid, they will compete in the NCCAA World Series that will be played in Kansas City for the second straight year from May 16-18.
