Track & Field Returns to OU For J.D. Martin Invitational

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Track & Field team will be making its way back down to Norman on Thursday to compete at the J.D. Martin Invitational with the Friday meet being moved up to Thursday inside the Mosier Indoor Track Facility.

The Evangels will be competing in the facility for the second time in less than a week after competing in the Owen Hewitt Invitational on Jan. 16.

MEN'S EVENT SCHEDULE MEN'S EVENT NOTES
  • Freshman Jaden Ingram will open the meet by competing in the long jump event, officially becoming MACU's first ever long jumper in program history.
  • In the Mile event, the Evangels will be sending out nine of its athletes to compete. Sophomore Jaden Rodriguez enters as MACU's top athlete in the event, posting a season-best 4:35.24 at last week's OU Owen Hewitt Invitational, just barely missing an NCCAA National Qualifying standard by only 0.24 seconds. Another one of MACU's top runners in junior Lucky Maila will also be competing in the event as he is seeking his third NCCAA National Qualifying standard after notching qualifiers in the 3000-meter and 5000-meter already this season.
  • Junior Mohamed Zairi will be seeking to pace MACU in the 800-meter. MACU's first All-SAC track athlete in the 800, Zairi posted an NCCAA qualifying mark in last week's Owen Hewitt with a time of 2:00.80 for the second-fastest in MACU's record book. He will be running with some tough company in the event with the program record holder in Rodriguez, Chase Cotarelo, who owns two of MACU's top five marks, as well as Maila competing in his first 800 of the season.
  • After competing in the program's first ever 60-meter dash last weekend, freshmen Jagger Jay and Sam Boyles will be seeking to better their times after each respectively scoring a 7.36 and 7.59 in the open section of the Owen Hewitt. The pair will also then compete in the pole vault event shortly following as both Jay and Boyles are looking to record their first heights of the indoor campaign.
  • Matthew Kletke will be competing in the 200-meter once again for the Evangels after notching a 25.08 in MACU's first ever 200-meter race. This week, he'll be joined by Jaden Ingram and Sam Boyles making their MACU debuts in the race.
  • Competing in the longest distance race of the meet, freshman Jonathan Avila will be seeking to lead the charge. An All-SAC honoree during the 2025 cross country season, Avila is making his 3000-meter debut for the Evangels. One of MACU's most experienced distance runners, sophomore Aidan Collins will also be looking to improve his mark after recording a personal-best of 9:21.80 at last year's NAIA/JUCO Challenge and posted a season-best 9:36.36 at last week's Owen Hewitt Invite.
  • The men will conclude the meet with the 4x400-meter relay. After having three teams in last week's meet at OU, the Evangels will trot out two 4x400 teams with the A squad consisting of Chase Cotarelo, Collin Seely, Blake Jensen, and Mohamed Zairi and the B team being Jonathan Avila, Jaden Ingram, Matthew Kletke, and Jawad Salame. The Evangels have mixed up their 4x400 teams so far this season as the squad of Kletke, Avila, Cotarelo, and Seely posted the fastest time so far this season with a 3:37.37 at the PSU Crimson & Gold Invitational last month while Ingram, Rodriguez, Zairi, and Cotarelo notched MACU's fastest time at last week's Owen Hewitt with a time of 3:39.02.
WOMEN'S EVENT SCHEDULE WOMEN'S EVENT PREVIEW

With both events being the first ever by a MACU women's track & field runner, Eyler set a 10.74 mark in the 60-meter hurdles and a 29.04 time in the 200-meter.
  • Competing in the 800-meter in last week's Owen Hewitt, junior Kaylee Campbell is ready to run in her first 3000-meter event of the indoor season. Officially, Campbell will be the first Evangel to run in the race.
