2.19.08 - EDMOND, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels dropped both games of a double header in their Sooner Athletic Conference season opener against the Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles Tuesday, Feb 19. The Lady Evangels lost 3-2 in the first game, and 8-0 in the second game.
"We played well this afternoon," MACU Head Coach Jerald Lewis said. "We made a few errors and that hurt us, especially in the first game."
The Lady Evangels batted 7-for-42 in the two games, and gave up nine earned runs on the day. The Lady Evangels committed five errors in the double header, which lead to two unearned runs. MACU left nine runners on base in the two games.
In the first game, the Lady Evangels fell behind early. OC scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, which gave the Lady Eagles an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Eagles struck again in the bottom of third inning, thanks to a MACU error.
The Lady Evangels got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, when Freshman Meagan Starks blasted a two-run homerun. MACU threatened in the top of the sixth inning, but the Lady Eagles held the Lady Evangels off for the win.
Freshman Kat Tims pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs in her collegiate debut. Starks finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI's.
In the second game, the Lady Evangels fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Eagles scored two more runs in the third and fourth innings, and put the Lady Evangels away.
Sophomore Kalynne Tweedie gave up seven earned runs in four innings. Freshman Alesha Calvery and Junior Kasey Gardner recorded the only two hits in the game.
The Lady Evangels fall to 0-2 on the season, and 0-2 in the conference.
MACU will battle Oklahoma Baptist University on the road in SAC playTuesday, Feb 26. First game of the double header is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
