3.31.08 - CONWAY, Ark. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels were swept in Arkansas this past weekend. The Central Baptist College Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Evangels, 12-3 in the first game, 10-1 in the second game, 11-5 in the third game, 10-2 in the fourth game.
MACU hit 22-for-91 in the four games, and scored 11 runs. CBC batted 47-for-105 for the weekend, and scored 43 runs. The Lady Evangels pitching staff gave up 35 earned runs, while the MACU defense committed seven errors.
In the first game, the Lady Mustangs jumped on the Lady Evangels early, scoring 11 runs in the first four innings, while holding MACU to just three runs in the game. Freshman Somer Grimes went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Freshman Jenna Harris went 1-for-1 with a RBI and a runs scored.
In the second game, MACU struck first in the top of the first inning, but CBC scored the next ten runs, cruising to the win. Junior Kasey Gardner went 1-for-3 and picked up the lone MACU RBI.
In the third game, the Lady Evangels took an early lead, 4-3, thanks to a home run by Freshman Alesha Calvery. The Lady Mustangs scored eight straight runs, putting away MACU. Calvery finished the game 1-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Senior Heidi Steckbauer went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Sophomore Candice Meza went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
In the fourth game, the Lady Mustangs pounced on the Lady Evangels early, scoring six runs in two innings, MACU never recovered. Steckbauer had the only two RBI's for MACU, smashing a two-run homerun in the fourth inning. Gardner had the other run for the Lady Evangels.
The Lady Evangels drop to 5-23 on the season, and remain 0-10 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
MACU will play the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at home, Tuesday, April, 1. First game of the double header will begin at 2:00 p.m.
