2.21.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.-The Mid-America Christian University softball team run ruled Central Baptist College in game one of the double header, 11-0. CBC capitalized off MACU errors in game two run ruling the Lady Evangels 10-0 at Lady Evangel Field on Friday.
In the opening game Caitlyn Ulmer (3-1) tossed a complete game shutout only allowing three hits and collecting five strikeouts.
MACU scored all nine runs in the third inning, with RBI's from Kacie Jackson, Courtney Kuebler, Kaci Haney, Kelcey Gabriel and Alesha Calvery.
"We have been swinging the bats well coming into today," head women's softball coach Jerald Lewis said. "The first game was pretty easy. We scored all 11 runs in the third inning and we had more chances in the fourth. We did exactly what we were suppose to do in game one."
In game two the Lady Evangels couldn't get their bats going with only two hits compared to the 13 hits they had in the opening game.
"We lost focus in game two, thinking it would be much like game one," Lewis said. "We weren't being patient at the plate and we lost our focus again on defense."
Kalynne Tweedie (2-2) was credited with the loss in game two. She had four strikeouts, giving up 14 hits and 10 runs.
CBC run ruled the Lady Evangels in five innings, just as MACU had done to them in the previous game. Their scoring was more spread out, with the Lady Evangels only shutting them down in the third.
"We weren't making the routine plays," Lewis said. "You can't do that against good teams and expect to win. You have to give all the credit to CBC the way they came back and responded. They are a great team. This was a tough 6 games in a three days stretch for us this early in the season. To come out of it 3-3 is pretty disappointing. We have much higher expectations for our program this year. So all we can do now is just put this game behind us and concentrate on our conference game Tuesday against OBU."
Now 5-3 on the season, MACU enters conference play on Tuesday, February 24th with Oklahoma Baptist University coming to Lady Evangel Field for a double header at 2 p.m.
