Shawnee, Okla. --
Jill Wilbanks tossed six solid innings for the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels in the first game, but it wasn't enough as the Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison won 2-1 and then defeated the Lady Evangels 8-0 in the nightcap to complete the sweep Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 8) in Shawnee, Okla.
Abbey Basler drove in both runs for the Lady Bison, with the first coming on a run-scoring single that scored Andrea Machado, who doubled to lead off the third inning.
The Lady Evangels came back with the tying run in the fifth when Ashley Dodson was hit by a pitch to start the inning and eventually scored on a two-out RBI single by
Christian Reyes.
OBU then took the lead for good when Alyssa Henkes doubled in the bottom of the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Basler.
The Lady Evangels had a chance in the sixth when
Ashley Newman walked with two out and went to third on a double by
Tiffani Molet, but a line out to third ended the threat.
Wilbanks gave up only two runs and struck out three in her six effective innings of work.
But she was bested by OBU's Noelle McDowell, who went seven innings with only run allowed on three hits and six strikeouts.
Molet went 2-of-3 at the plate for the Lady Evangels, while seven different Lady Bison collected hits.
The second game got off to a bad start out of the gate for MACU as the Lady Bison took advantage of three errors in the first inning to plate two runs.
OBU then scored three more runs in the third on an RBI single by Candace Holden and a two-run single from Kenna Self.
The Lady Bison added another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to close out the win.
Sonya Beach got the win for OBU by tossing five shutout innings and allowing only one hit, a single in the second by Dodson.
The Lady Evangels will next be in action at a tournament in McPherson, Kan. this weekend (Mar. 11-12).
