Lady Evangels swept as No. 11 Southern Nazarene rallies in nightcap

Bethany, Okla. -- The No. 11-ranked Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm rallied with two runs in the sixth to overtake the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 5) in Bethany, Okla.  SNU dominated the opener 14-0.

MACU starter Kelcie Wolf was outstanding on the hill in the nightcap, blanking the Crimson Storm on five hits through the first five frames.

The Lady Evangels got on the board in the sixth with the game's first run after Jessica Noblitt tripled with two out and scored on an error.

But the 11th ranked Crimson Storm staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning as Kacey Acker tripled home pinch runner Jordan Jones to tie the score.

Acker then scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Keli Billups.

Starter Kaci Crawford retired the Lady Evangels in order in the seventh to preserve the win and finish off the complete game.

Crawford's run allowed was unearned as she struck out 10 to earn her 16th win of the season.

Wolf struck out three in six innings of work and gave up only the two runs in the sixth in a tough luck loss.

SNU jumped all over the Lady Evangels in the first game with six runs in the first inning that featured four home runs.

Daphne Stewart and Jones began the frame with back-to-back homers and a three-run shot from Katie Turner capped the inning.

SNU then put it away with another in the second, four in the third and three more tallies in the fourth.

Starting pitcher Jordan Simmons gave up hits to Christian Reyes and Ashlee Dodson in the first inning, but held the Lady Evangels hitless the rest of the way.

The Lady Evangels will next host Langston in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon (Apr. 7) at 2 p.m.
