OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University Softball head coach Robert Wakefield is getting a jump on early recruiting with the signing of Taryn Callender to the program for the 2014 season.
Callender is a native of Ardmore, Okla. and is expected to compete for playing time at catcher, second base and third base.
She earned All-Conference honors while playing for the Plainview HS Indians and was a three-time All-Ardmoreite selection. Callender was also named the team Rookie of the Year in 2009, team MVP in 2010 and the team Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 as well as earning the Citizenship award for the 2012 season.
Her effort on the field helped the Plainview Indians to four district championships, two Lake County conference titles and a regional championship and state quarterfinal appearance in 2011.
A solid student-athlete, Callender ranked in the top 10 % of her class and was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club.
Taryn is a great young lady and her personality and athletic ability is going to help her become a good ball player here at MACU," Wakefield said. "She can play many positions on the field, which is going to make her a big asset to our program for the next four years. We are excited in signing Taryn for the 2013-2014 school year."
She is the daughter of Scott and Tina Callender and plans on majoring in Accounting/Business at MACU.
