Southwestern Christian rallies in game two to complete sweep of Lady Evangels

Bethany, Okla. -- The Southwestern Christian University Lady Eagles came back from two runs down to defeat the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 7-6 to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon (Mar. 31) in Bethany, Okla.  The Lady Eagles blanked the Lady Evangels 5-0 in the opener.

The Lady Evangels had rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the nightcap and took the lead 6-5 with three runs in the top of the sixth.

But in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Eagles plated two go-ahead tallies and hung on for the win.

Ashlee Dodson went 2-of-4 at the plate with three RBI in the second game for the Lady Evangels, while pinch hitter Amber Tinney drove in two runs.

Starting pitcher Hilary Kuestersteffen drove in two runs for the Lady Eagles.

Tinney started the opener for MACU and held the Lady Eagles scoreless over the first three innings, but the Lady Eagles broke through with single tallies in the fourth and fifth before pulling away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Three errors led to only two of the five runs charged to Tinney being earned. Tinney struck out six and walked only one in her six innings of work.

Courtney Gaines shut out the Lady Evangels and struck out six over seven innings.

The two schools will now turn around and play a doubleheader at Jack Allen Field on the MACU campus on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 3) at 1 p.m.
