No. 3 Stars too much for Lady Evangels in doubleheader sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 3-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars cruised to a pair of wins over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels by scores of 8-0 & 12-0 Tuesday evening (Apr. 17) at Ann Lacy Stadium on the OCU campus.

The Stars used dominant pitching in both outings, started by a one-hitter by Lily LaVelle in the opener.  LaVelle struck out 14 batters and walked only one.

It didn't take long for the Stars to jump on top as they scored five in the first and then two more in the second for a commanding early lead.

Tori Joyner keyed the Stars' offensive attack with a 3-of-4 effort at the plate, while Emily Krienke was 2-of-3 with three RBI.

One bright spot for the Lady Evangels in the first game was the pitching of Autumn Lawrence.  Lawrence came in with the Lady Evangels down 7-0 in the third and limited the Stars to only one run in the final 3 2/3 innings.

As in the opener, the Stars started fast with two in the first and then a whopping 10 runs in the third inning to put it away.

LaVelle and Joyner keyed the Stars with two RBI each.

Jackie Hilterbran and Erica Love were each 2-of-2 for the Lady Evangels.

MACU will next play a doubleheader at Oklahoma Wesleyan beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon (Apr. 21) in Bartlesville, Okla.
