Lady Evangels Rally for 6-5 win over McPherson; Finish McPherson Tournament with 2-1 mark

Wichita, Kan. -- Randi Gilmartin doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh and the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels got seven effective innings from Jackie Hilterbran in a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the McPherson College Lady Bulldogs in action at the McPherson College Tournament in Wichita, Kan. The tournament was moved to Wichita due to poor field conditions from the winter storm in McPherson, Kan. MACU also defeated Bethel College (Kan.) 10-8 in the first game of the day but lost a wild offensive game 18-17 to Tabor College (Kan.) in the final game of the night.

The Lady Evangels had to rally from five runs down as McPherson scored two runs in the second and three more in the third on the strength of a solo homer by Jenna Kaiser and an RBI triple from Ashley Love.

Gilmartin helped the Lady Evangels make their charge with a two-run double in the fourth and then singled home a run in a three-run fifth inning that tied the score. Sarah Fipps also had a two-run single in the fifth.

Tiffany Holt then plated the eventual winning run in the seventh by getting on base on a hit by pitch and scoring on another RBI double by Gilmartin.

Hilterbran sealed the win for the Lady Evangels by sitting down the Lady Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed five runs, but only two earned and struck out three in her seven innings of work.

Gilmartin powered the Lady Evangels with four RBI on a 3-of-4 effort at the plate.

Love was 2-of-3 with two RBI for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Evangels will resume Sooner Athletic Conference action with a doubleheader at home against Rogers State University on Tuesday (Mar. 12) at 1 p.m.
