Langston Rallies in Second Game for 10-8 win to Complete Sweep of Lady Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Langston University Lady Lions rallied from five runs down to defeat the Mid-America Christian University Evangels in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (Apr. 13) at Jack Allen Field.  The Lady Lions held off a rally by the Lady Evangels in the opener to win 6-4.

Down 8-3 after three innings, the Lady Lions went to work with two in the fourth and then pulled even as a two-run single by Melissa Naylor capped a three-run sixth inning.

Andrea Barber then singled home two runs in the seventh to put the Lady Lions on top 10-8.  Naylor then retired the Lady Evangels in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win.

Naylor pitched the final four innings out of the bullpen, blanking the Lady Evangels on three hits.

The Lady Evangels led 2-1 when an RBI double by Amber Tinney and run-scoring singles by Jackie Hilterbran and Erica Love accounted for a three-run second inning.

Hilterbran then doubled home a run in the fourth and Tiffany Holt singled home two more to cap another three-run frame.

The Lady Evangels found themselves down big in the opener as a two-run double by Kayla Mercado keyed a three-run fourth inning that made it 6-0.

It was still a six-run deficit when Love led off the sixth with a solo homer that put MACU on the board.  Carson Osborne then singled home Holt before a wild throw scored Amanda Stevenson that made it a three-run game.

The Lady Evangels inched closer in the seventh when Hilterbran led off with a double and scored on an infield single by Stevenson.

MACU was threatening for more with the bases-loaded and no outs, but Barber fanned three straight to help the Lady Lions hold on for the win.

The two losses offset a big day at the plate for Osborne, who went 6-of-8 in the twinbill with two runs scored and one RBI. Hilterbran, Love and Holt each drove in two runs in the nightcap.

The Lady Evangels will next play a rescheduled doubleheader at Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday (Apr. 16) beginning at 4 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
