Drovers slip by Lady Evangels in Doubleheader Sweep

Chickasha, Okla. -- The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers squeaked past the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels by scores of 5-3 and 2-1 Thursday afternoon (Apr. 25) at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.

Tiffany Holt put the Lady Evangels on top of the first game with an RBI single that plated Kenna McCoy.

The Drovers then staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the second to score three runs, two on a single by Sara Reeves.

It was 4-1 when the Lady Evangels scored twice in the top of the fourth to make it a one-run game.

Carson Osborne then doubled to lead off the sixth to represent the tying run, but was left stranded at third.

A homer by starting pitcher Morgan Bratcher in the bottom of the inning gave the Drovers a two-run lead again and Bratcher then closed out the win in the seventh.

Osborne and Jackie Hilterbran each had two hits for the Lady Evangels, with Hilterbran also pitching six innings and striking out three with five runs allowed.

Bratcher allowed no earned runs on eight hits in her seven innings of work in the win for USAO.

Kelcie Wolf and Brooke McLeod were locked in a pitcher's duel in the nightcap through the first 3 1/2 innings before the Drovers finally broke though with a pair of runs as McLeod helped herself with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

A homer by Erica Love in the sixth cut the lead to one and the Lady Evangels threatened for more with runners on first and second and two out, but McLeod got a fly out to end the inning and preserve the lead.

McLeod then retired the Lady Evangels in order in the seventh to seal the win.

Hilterbran and Autumn Lawrence each 2-of-4 at the plate for the Lady Evangels.  Wolf pitched six innings, giving up one earned run and striking out two in the hard luck loss.

McLeod also allowed one earned run with four strikeouts in a winning effort.
