Oklahoma Baptist uses big Innings to Sweep Lady Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bison swept a doubleheader today (Apr. 9) from the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels by scores of 6-0 and 11-3 at Jack Allen Field.

It was 2-2 in the fifth inning of the nightcap when Erin McLeod hit a grand slam that put the Lady Bison in control up by four runs.

OBU led 6-3 going into the seventh and put it away by stringing together five straight two-out singles to score five times in the inning.

The Lady Evangels took a brief lead in the nightcap on an RBI double by Jackie Hilterbran that plated Kenna McCoy in the bottom of the first.

OBU answered with a run in the second and then grabbed the lead in the third on a run-scoring groundout by Kenna Self.

MACU's Amber Tinney and OBUs Noelle McDowell were locked in a pitcher's duel through the first five innings of the opener, with the Lady Bison clinging to a 1-0 lead.

But OBU broke through with five runs in the sixth, helped in large part by three errors in the frame.  McDowell got it going by helping herself with a one-double and scored on an RBI single by Shalee Cordell.

Kasey Maddox and Amanda Harmon also had RBI singles in the inning as two of the five runs were unearned thanks to the miscues.

McDowell was stingy throughout, striking out 10 and allowing only two hits in seven innings for OBU.

Tinney gave up four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts, while Hilterbran blanked the Lady Bison on three hits over the final 1 2/3 innings.

The two schools will complete the four-game series Thursday evening (Apr. 11) at 5 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
