Softball Opens Season with Sweep at Bacone College

Muskogee, Okla. -- Jackie Hilterbran blasted two home runs to power the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a pair of season-opening victories over the Bacone College Lady Warriors 10-9 and 8-5 today (Feb. 13) in Muskogee, Okla.

The Lady Evangels dug an early hole in the opener, committing three errors that led to a three-run first inning for Bacone.

A two-run double by Ashley Sanford in the third chipped away at the lead and a lead-off homer by Hilterbran started a two-run fourth that put MACU on top.

After the Lady Warriors scored to go up 6-5, RBI singles by Kenna McCoy and Taryn Callender gave the Lady Evangels the lead again and Hannah Lynch capped the five-run inning with a two-run shot that made it a four-run game.

Tarah Moutray hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and the Lady Warriors had a chance to take the lead, but Amber Tinney came in and induced an inning-ending double-play and then pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the victory.

The Lady Evangels again rallied in the nightcap, this time with a five-run fifth inning to overcome a two-run deficit.

Hilterbran hit her second lead-off homer of the day to get things started. Callender then finished the big frame with a two-run triple.

Katie Gracey and Kenzie Graeber also drove in runs in the inning for the Lady Evangels.

Sanford blanked the Lady Warriors over the final two frames with two strikeouts to pick up the win.

The Lady Evangels will open up the home portion of their schedule by hosting Hillsdale College tomorrow afternoon (Feb. 14) at 1 p.m. at Jack Allen Field.
