OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels are now 4-0 for the first time since becoming an NAIA school with a doubleheader sweep of the Hillsdale College Lady Saints today (Feb. 14) at Jack Allen Field. The Lady Evangels blanked the Lady Saints in the opener 5-0 and then finished off the sweep with a 7-4 victory in the second game.
Kelci Wolf produced a dominant outing in the first game, throwing seven scoreless innings and allowing only one hit with seven strikeouts and no walks.
An RBI single by Ashley Sanford got the Lady Evangels on the board in the first and then a run-scoring groundout from Hannah Lynch made it 2-0 after four innings.
The Lady Evangels then tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth as Hannah Lynch drove home Jackie Hilterbran and Tiffany Holt singled home Sanford and Lynch.
Amber Tinney pitched the nightcap for the Lady Evangels and mirrored Wolf's solid outing in the first game.
Tinney shutout the Lady Saints in her first five innings of work on only one hit.
The Lady Evangels again got going early when Hilterbran hit an RBI single and then scored on an RBI double by Sanford to spark a three-run first inning.
It remained 3-0 until a two-run single from Lynch and a two-run double by Natalie Bissell in the bottom of the fifth made it a seven-run game
The Lady Saints made things interesting with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
With the score 7-4 with one on and two outs, head coach Robert Wakefield again summoned Tinney into the game.
Following a walk that brought the tying run to the plate, Tinney got a foul out to close out the win.
The Lady Evangels will now turn around and host Kansas Wesleyan University in another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon (Feb. 15) starting at noon.
