Green's Walk-Off Double Gives Lady Evangels Dramatic 7-6 Victory Over No. 15 OBU

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Taylor Green had four hits on the day, but none were bigger than the two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth that scored Natalie Bissell and gave the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels a dramatic 7-6 victory over the No. 15-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bison in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 19) at Jack Allen Field.  The second game was postponed due to impending darkness.

The win marks the first time the Lady Evangels have begun a season 7-2 since becoming an NAIA school.

The Lady Evangels trailed 6-5 going to the bottom of the eighth after the Lady Bison jumped on top with a run in the top of the inning on an RBI groundout by Annie Combs.

Carson Osborne started the inning on second base due to the international tiebreaker and plated the tying-run on a double by Tiffany Holt that paved the way for Green's heroics.

MACU twice trailed by three runs, with the last coming when the Lady Bison scored two runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Raeven Clark and a bloop single from Shalee Cordell that made it 5-2.

Green brought the Lady Evangels to within a run by blasting a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and then a run-scoring single by Taryn Callender in the bottom of the fifth tied the score.

Ashley Sanford worked three innings of relief to pick up the victory.  She allowed only one run on two hits and struck out three.

Amber Tinney started for the Lady Evangels and gave up five runs in five innings, but struck out four and stranded 10 runners to limit the damage.

Green was 4-of-5 overall for the Lady Evangels with three RBI.  Holt, Callender and Jackie Hilterbran also had two hits on the day.

The Lady Evangels will next compete in the USAO/MACU Softball Tournament this weekend in Chickasha, Okla.  The Lady Evangels will begin the tourney against Langston University on Friday morning (Feb. 21) at 10 a.m. and then York College at 1 p.m.
