Lady Evangels Now 10-5 After Doubleheader Split with Panhandle State

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels won their 10th game of the season with a 6-2 victory over the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25) at Jack Allen Field.  The Lady Evangels then dropped the second game to the Aggies 4-1.

Amber Tinney pitched a solid outing for the Lady Evangels in the opener, limiting the Aggies to only one earned run with two strikeouts in her seven innings on the hill.

Tinney's offensive support came from Taylor Green and Jackie Hilterbran, who each went 3-of-4 at the plate.

Hilterbran singled home Green in the first inning to get the Lady Evangels on the board before Green drove Katie Gracey home with an RBI double in a two-run second inning.

Hilterbran added to the lead in the fourth with a run-scoring double that made it 4-0.

After the Aggies scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to inch closer, RBI singles by Hannah Lynch and Natalie Bissell gave the Lady Evangels their four-run lead back.

OPSU starter Samantha Arledge was too much for the Lady Evangels (10-5) in the nightcap, striking out 10 and allowing only one run on two hits.

The Lady Evangels managed to get on the board first when Kenna McCoy doubled with one out and eventually scored on a strikeout, passed ball that allowed Ashley Sanford to reach base with two outs.

Arledge then helped herself at the plate by homering to lead-off the second to pull the Aggies even.

The Aggies continued to play long ball and took the lead on a mammoth two-run homer by Lilli Ward in the top of the third.

OPSU added an insurance run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Ward.

Kelci Wolf started for the Lady Evangels and allowed three earned runs in five innings.  Hilterbran then pitched two scoreless frames in relief and gave up only one hit.

The Lady Evangels will next host No. 19-ranked St. Gregory's University in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Thursday afternoon (Feb. 27) beginning at 1 p.m.
