OKLAHOMA CITY -- Amber Tinney threw seven shutout innings to lead the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a 2-0 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers today (Mar. 11) at Jack Allen Field. The Drovers then rallied to take the second game 4-3 to salvage a split.
Tinney blanked the Drovers on only two hits with five strikeouts in her seven innings on the mound.
Ashley Sanford gave Tinney the offensive support she needed with an RBI double in the first to score Jackie Hilterbran and then delivered an RBI in the bottom of the sixth by reaching on an error on a grounder that scored Kenna McCoy.
Tate Landmark was also effective in the first game for the Drovers, going six innings with only one earned run allowed,
The Lady Evangels appeared to have the nightcap in control when RBI singles by Carson Osborne, Natalie Bissell and a run-scoring groundout by Kenna McCoy made it 3-1 after four innings.
After USAO scored a run in the sixth to make it 3-2, a throwing error led to the two winning runs crossing the plate in the seventh.
The two unearned runs in the seventh meant all four runs scored by the Drovers in the second game against MACU starter Kelci Wolf were unearned tallies.
Taylor Green was 3-of-4 at the plate for the Lady Evangels, while Sanford went 2-of-4 in the nightcap.
Taylor Smith went 2-of-2 for the Drovers and Landmark drove in a pair of runs.
