No. 19 Cavaliers Sweep Lady Evangels

Shawnee, Okla. -- The No. 19-ranked St. Gregory's University Cavaliers swept a doubleheader from the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels Thursday afternoon (Mar. 13) in Shawnee, Okla.  SGU took the opener 6-3 and then the second game 6-1.

The Lady Evangels were close much of the way in the opener, trailing only 4-3 after four innings.

After a two-run homer by Caitlin O'Hagan and a two-run double from Melanie Gladden put SGU up 4-1, Taylor Green hit a two-run single in the top of the third to bring the Lady Evangels within a run.

But the Cavaliers held the Lady Evangels there and gained more breathing as RBI doubles by Allison Eales and Danielle Bacon gave SGU two valuable insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.

MACU starter Amber Tinney pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs, but only two earned thanks to four errors.  Ashley Sanford pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Devon Frazier gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings, but Sierra Gallego came in and blanked the Lady Evangels over the final 4 2/3 to pick up the win.

Sanford was 2-of-4 at the plate for the Lady Evangels with two RBI and Katie Gracey hit a solo homer in the second inning.

In the nightcap, the Cavaliers were powered by a 4-of-4 effort by Randi Yousey and a 3-of-3 outing from Eales.

Brooklyn Sparks and Dani Nissen each drove in two runs for the Cavaliers in the second game.

Mollie Carter limited the Lady Evangels to only one run in her seven innings on the mound with four strikeouts and four walks.

Carson Osborne went 2-of-3 for the Lady Evangels, while Green had the lone RBI.

The Lady Evangels will next face another nationally ranked opponent in No. 15-ranked (T-15th) Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday afternoon (Mar. 15) at 1 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.  MACU bested OBU in the first meeting 7-6 back on Feb. 19.
