OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid America Lady Evangels managed to come out on top during a complete sweep against Bacone College at Jack Allen Field on Tuesday, March 25th. The Lady Evangels got the two victories with an overall score of 6-1 in the first game and 8-3 in the second.
Kelcie Wolf and Amber Tinney were both dominant by grabbing the two wins in the circle. Tinney also was able to limit the hits by giving up five hits while striking out four and giving up no earned runs over six innings.
In the opener, the Lady Evangels made sure to get on top in the first inning. Hannah Lynch was able to come in clutch and hit a solid fly ball to right center to score Jackie Hilterbran for the Lady Evangels to jump on top 1-0.
MACU did not stop there. After Wolf shut out the Warriors in the first and second innings, MACU came back in the second to grab another run by Tiffany Holt leading off with a double to left field , where she was able to score on a deep fly ball to center field by Taryn Callendar.
The bottom of the third was where the Lady Evangels came out with four runs. Hilterbran started off the inning with a hard hit ball to left field and Ashley Sanford came through to advance her by a base hit to left. Hannah Lynch, Natalie Bissell, Tiffany Holt, and Taryn Callendar were able to each get hits to grab an RBI before the inning ended, making it 6-0 going into the fourth. The Warriors then got on the board with three hits in the top of the seventh to make the final score 6-1.
MACU made sure to continue the winning streak in the second game. The Lady Warriors scored two runs in the top of the first by one hit and one error.
Kenna McCoy attacked in the first with a single to short and Lynch was able to follow up with a hit by pitch and Sanford came through to score Mccoy and Lynch by an off the wall double to center to tie the game 2-2.
Bissell led the second inning off with a double to right field, but was left stranded on third. Lynch reached first on an error in the bottom of the third and Sanford had a two-run homer to put the Evangels on top 4-2.
Holt had a double and was later scored with a homerun by Bissell to center field to give MACU the 6-2 advantage. The Lady Warriors then scored one run on an error. However, it was in the bottom of the fourth that Lynch reached first on an error and once again Sanford came through with a two- run homer to bring the score up 8-3.
Tinney managed to keep the Warriors off the bases for the next two innings to pick up the victory.
The Lady Evangels offense attack came from Ashley Sanford as she was 7 for 7 on the day and Tiffany Holt was 5 for 6.
Sanford's six RBI in the second game are tied for the most by a Lady Evangel in a single game since becoming an NAIA school.
The Lady Evangels will next host Oklahoma Baptist University Thursday afternoon (Mar. 27) at 1 p.m. in a makeup game from Feb. 19.
