Lady Evangels Sweep SAGU Behind Timely Hitting and Dominant Pitching

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels were able to add two wins to their season after they swept Southwest Assemblies of God University by scores of 4-0 and 9-1 on Friday (March 28, 2014) at Jack Allen Field.

The two victories move the Lady Evangels to 17-11 overall on the season and an even 5-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  The 17 wins are only two away from equaling the most wins since becoming an NAIA program in 2008.

MACU decided to get on the board in the bottom of the third when Taryn Callendar bunted to get on for a base hit. Kenna Mccoy came through by hitting a shot to left -center to advance Callendar to second. Hannah Lynch then doubled home both Callendar and Mccoy to put the Lady Evangels on top.

The Lady Evangels were not ready to stop there as Jackie Hilterbran led off the fourth with a single up the middle. Tiffany Holt grabbed an RBI by singling to left field to advance Hilterbran home to put MACU on top 3-0.

Holt was able to score when Callendar came through with a single.

Kelcie Wolf was dominant on the mound by allowing no runs in her six innings of work. Wolf shut out SAGU by allowing only three hits and grabbed seven strike outs. Kaycee Fowler came in to finish out the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Lady Evangels were not satisfied with the one win and came alive early in game two against SAGU by scoring three in the bottom of the first inning.

Taylor Green started it off by singling to center, where she later advanced to second off of Mccoy's base hit. Lynch followed up by also getting a single to load the bases and a base hit to right field by Ashley Sanford put the Lady Evangels on top 2-0.

Holt came through again to hit a deep fly ball to left field, where Lynch was able to tag up and score, putting the Lady Evangels on top heading into the second 3-0.

SAGU grabbed a run in the second when Riggs scored on an error.

In the bottom of the third, MACU came through again when Lynch and Hilterbran reached on an error and Sanford on a hit by pitch. Lynch managed to score on a bobble and Holt then drove in two runs with a double to left field, scoring Sanford and Hilterbran.

Callendar singled to right field to score Holt before heading into the top of the fourth with the Lady Evangels leading 7-1.

Mccoy started off with a double to left center and was able to score on Sanford's hard ground ball.

MACU was able to add one more run in the 6th to complete the scoring.

Amber Tinney was effective in her five innings of work on the mound by allowing only three hits while striking out seven. Fowler also came in to finish off the second game by getting three quick outs.

Mccoy was 4 for 7 at the plate, Callendar 3 for 5 and Holt 2 for 4.

The Lady Evangels will host SAGU for games 3 and 4 beginning at 11 AM tomorrow (Mar. 29) at Jack Allen Field.
