Lady Evangels Complete Four-Game Sweep of SAGU to Tie Most Wins as NAIA School

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels defeated the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lady Lions today (Mar. 29) by scores of 9-1 and 8-0 to complete a four-game sweep and improve to 19-11 on the season and 7-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The 19 victories equal the most wins (2009) by the Lady Evangels since joining the NAIA.

After the Lady Lions took a brief 1-0 lead in the opener, Natalie Bissell blistered a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to quickly erase the deficit and put the Lady Evangels on top.

The Lady Evangels then plated three more in the third and blew the game open on a three-run homer by Ashley Sanford in the bottom of the fifth that made it 8-1.

An error in the sixth inning then led to the tally that ended the game on the run rule.

Amber Tinney worked five innings and gave up one run on two hits and struck out two to pick up the win.  Jackie Hilterbran pitched a scoreless sixth inning out of the bullpen.

Hannah Lynch went 3-of-3 with an RBI, while Hilterbran, Taylor Green and Kenna McCoy each had two hits in the opener.

The Lady Evangels also ended the nightcap on the run rule after jumping all over the Lady Lions with a five-run first inning.

McCoy started the rally with a lead-off triple and scored on a two-run double by Lynch.  Hilterbran then singled home two runs and Bissell capped the frame with an RBI double that plated Hilterbran.

An RBI single by Lynch in the second made it 6-0 and Bissell then ended the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.

Kelci Wolf struck out five in four dominant innings and allowed only three hits. Sanford finished the game with a scoreless fifth inning.

Lynch was 2-of-3 with three runs driven in, with Green and Bissell also picking up two hits in the second game.

The Lady Evangels will next be at Hillsdale College for a twinbill Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 1) beginning at 2 p.m. in Moore, Okla.
