OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 18-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars slipped by the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 4-2 in the opener and took the second game 13-5 to complete the sweep this evening (Apr. 24) in Oklahoma City.
MACU starter Amber Tinney pitched well in the first game after a shaky first inning.
Kyle Rounsaville singled home the first run and an error and a wild pitch led to two more tallies that put OCU in front 3-0 after one.
The Stars got another run in the second when Cheyanne Terry hit an RBI single that put the Lady Evangels in a 4-0 hole.
Ashley Sanford then cut the deficit in half with a two-run homer in the fourth, but that's as close as the Lady Evangels could come against OCU starter Danielle Fox, who struck out six with no walks in seven innings.
Tinney struck out four and allowed only one walk in receiving a tough-luck loss.
The Stars (42-10, 23-7 SAC) jumped on the Lady Evangels early in the nightcap, as a two-run double by Maxime van Dalen capped a five-run first inning.
MACU battled back on an RBI single from Taylor Green and after the Stars answered with another run in the second, two-run homers from Hannah Lynch in the third and Natalie Bissell in the fourth brought the Lady Evangels within 6-5.
But the Stars responded in a big way with three in the fourth and then a three-run homer by Rounsaville finished off a four-run fifth inning that put it away.
The Lady Evangels (30-24, 12-18 SAC) will now wrap up the regular season at No. 15-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University next Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 29) at 4 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
