Greenville, SC -- Mid-America Christian University junior pitcher Kelcie Wolf and sophomore catcher Carson Osborne have each earned National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced today (May 21).
To qualify for this award, the student-athlete must be at least a junior academically and maintain a minimum 3.4 grade-point-average. Even though Osborne is a sophomore on the playing field, she has completed enough college hours to be a junior academically.
Wolf has a 3.94 GPA with a major in Secondary English Education, while Osborne is majoring in Behavioral Science with a 3.6 GPA.
Wolf paired with senior Amber Tinney to give the Lady Evangels a formidable starting pitching duo. She won 12 games with a 3.91 earned-run-average along with a solid 121-33 strikeout-walk ratio. She also held the opposition to a team-best .292 batting average in 152 1/3 innings on the mound.
Osborne batted .323 with one home run and 14 RBI in 48 games, including 32 starts. She also slugged .441 and posted a .360 on-base percentage. Osborne also came through with arguably the biggest hit of the season, a two-out, two-run, go-ahead triple in the ninth inning of an 8-5 victory over USAO that eventually clinched the Lady Evangels first-ever appearance in the Sooner Athletic Conference championship game.
The duo helped the Lady Evangels enjoy a breakout season, winning a single-season best 34 games this year along with the berth in the SAC title game.
