OKLAHOMA CITY -- Taylor Green drove in a combined seven runs to lead the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a doubleheader sweep of the Bacone College Lady Warriors in the 2015 season opener today (Feb. 12) at Jack Allen Field.
The Lady Evangels won by the five-inning run-rule in both games, 9-0 in the opener and 13-5 on a two-run walk-off homer by Tymber Howard in the bottom of the fifth.
MACU capitalized on four errors by the Lady Warriors to score 10 runs in the second inning that erased a 2-0 deficit. Green finished the big inning with a two-run double and Cassidy Hart drilled a two-run blast for her first career homer in the frame.
The Lady Evangels appeared on their way to a five-inning victory with a 11-2 lead heading to the fifth, but an RBI double by Brittany Foshee and run-scoring single from Megan Pinson made it 11-5 and kept the game going into the bottom of the inning.
But Howard picked a fine time to also hit her first career homer, a two-out, two-run shot to left that put it away for the Lady Evangels.
Caitlin Swain worked the first three innings to get the win, allowing two runs with two strikeouts.
The Lady Evangels blanked the Lady Warriors in the first game behind four scoreless innings from Kelcie Wolf and a scoreless frame by Macie Crites. Wolf allowed only two hits along with five strikeouts and no walks in picking up the win.
Green's bases-clearing, three-run double capped a five-run inning for the Lady Evangels and RBI doubles from Hannah Lynch and Carson Osborne powered a four-run fourth inning and that's all the Lady Evangels needed.
The Lady Evangels will next host Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) at noon.
