Lady Evangels Drop a Pair of Games to Kansas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels lost a doubleheader to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes today (Feb. 14) at Jack Allen Field. The Coyotes won the first game 11-3 and then took the nightcap 7-2.

The Coyotes took advantage of six MACU errors in the opener to score eight unearned runs, including three miscues that led to seven unearned tallies in a decisive nine-run fourth inning that snapped a 2-2 tie.

Kimberly Patterson had an RBI triple in the big inning and Abrianna Palacio added an RBI single for the Coyotes.

The Lady Evangels trailed 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third when Katie Gracey smacked a two-run homer that temporarily tied the score.

Taylor Green had two hits in the opener with an RBI for MACU.

KWU again grabbed an early lead in the second game as Emily Sparks laid down a successful squeeze bunt single and then a fielder's choice by Stephanie Patterson led to another run that made it 2-0.

The Lady Evangels capitalized on an error in the bottom of the inning to come within 2-1 before the Coyotes once again scored on an RBI squeeze hit by Reanna Guzman to re-take a two-run lead.

After Mykah Smith singled home Jackie Hilterbran to make it a one-run deficit again, an error led to four unearned runs for the Coyotes in the seventh that put it away.  Guzman finished the frame with a two-run double.

Cassidy Hart had two hits in three at-bats in the second game for the Lady Evangels, while Sparks and Guzman also had a pair of hits for KWU.

The Lady Evangels will next host Central Christian College next Thursday afternoon (Feb. 19) at 1 p.m.
