Lady Evangels Drop a Pair of Pitcher's Duels at No. 14 USAO

Chickasha, Okla. -- Caitlin Swain and Macie Crites were each solid on the hill today for the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels today (Apr. 23), but were outdueled by Summer Leitka of the No. 14-ranked USAO Drovers each game.  Leitka pitched USAO to a pair of shutout wins, 3-0 in the first game and then 2-0 in the nightcap.

Swain pitched four innings in the opener and allowed no earned runs, but gave up two unearned tallies in the bottom of the second thanks to an error.

Shania Beck reached on the miscue to start the second inning and went to second on a walk to Kayla Adams.  Beck and Adams then eventually stole home for the Drovers' two runs.

That's all Leitka needed, who struck out nine in seven scoreless innings.

Kenna McCoy had two of the Lady Evangels' five hits in the first game.

Marki Dethloff followed Swain and blanked the Drovers (34-7, 17-3 SAC) over the final three frames.

Leitka then struck out five and allowed only three hits in shutting out the Lady Evangels in the second game.

Beck scored the Drovers' first run after doubling with one out in the second and then scoring on an error for another unearned run.

Dani Warren singled home the Drovers' second run in the fifth inning before Kaylin Taylor chased home McKenna Eubank with a bunt single in the seventh.

Crites went five innings and allowed one earned run with five strikeouts for the Lady Evangels (22-16, 10-12 SAC).  Dethloff again came out of the pen and gave up one run in her two innings of work.

The Lady Evangels are currently fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings and will now prepare for the SAC Postseason Tournament coming up Apr. 30-May 2 at Oklahoma City University.
