OBU Slips By Lady Evangels 5-4 in Extra Innings in SAC Tourney Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bison plated a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to slip by the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 5-4 in the opening game of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament today (Apr. 30) at Ann Lacy Stadium on the Oklahoma City University campus.

The Lady Evangels will next play Southwestern Assemblies of God University later today at 4 p.m.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, OBU's Shalee Cordell doubled home Caitlin Hall for the winning tally.

The Lady Evangels (23-18) trailed 3-0 early when Mykah Smith smacked a three-run homer to tie the score in the top of the fourth inning.

Then an infield RBI single by Kenna McCoy in the fifth scored Cassidy Hart to put the Lady Evangels up by a run.

The Lady Evangels held that lead until Carrie Abrams led off the seventh inning with a double and scored the tying run on a bunt RBI single from Harlee Griffis.

MACU starting pitcher Macie Crites kept it a tie game and sent it into extra innings by inducing consecutive groundouts with one out and the bases loaded.

Smith's three RBI fueled the Lady Evangels, while McCoy and Jackie Hilterbran each picked up two hits on the day.

Crites lasted seven innings and allowed four earned runs with three strikeouts.  Marki Dethloff then pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the Lady Evangels with one strikeout and one run allowed.
