Smith, Crites, Wolf Power Lady Evangels' Sweep of Southwestern Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mykah Smith slugged two home runs while Macie Crites and Kelcie Wolf were near perfect on the mound to lead the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a doubleheader sweep of the Southwestern Christian University Lady Eagles today (Apr. 7) at Jack Allen Field.  The Lady Evangels won the opener 5-1 and then 8-0 in the second game.

After the Lady Eagles jumped on top 1-0 in the first game, Smith followed an RBI double by Katie Gracey with a two-run homer in the second inning to make it 3-1.

Gracey then singled home Hannah Lynch in the third inning before Smith finished the scoring with her second homer in the sixth inning.

Following a lead-off double by Jessica Orozco to begin the game, Macie Crites didn't allow another hit during her six innings of work and struck out four.  Marki Dethloff pitched a scoreless seventh with one strikeout to finish off the win.

Smith was a perfect 3-of-3 in the first game, with two runs scored and three RBI. Gracey went 2-of-3 with a pair of RBI.

The nightcap also saw a one-hitter for the Lady Evangels, this time by Kelcie Wolf, who carried a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings until Orozco again supplied the Lady Eagles their only hit with a two-out double.

The Lady Evangels (19-10, 7-6 SAC) got on the board in the third and then broke it wide open with six runs in the sixth.

It was Tiffany Holt who anchored the Lady Evangels' offensive attack in the second game, going 2-of-3 with three runs driven in.

Jackie Hilterbran also went 2-of-2 in the nightcap.

The Lady Evangels will next play at No. 6-ranked St. Gregory's University on Thursday afternoon (Apr. 9) beginning at 2 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
