Lady Evangels Extend Winning Streak to Five Games with Sweep of Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – Cassidy Hart recorded five hits in her eight at-bats and drove in five runs to lead the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a doubleheader sweep of the Central Christian College Tigers today (Feb. 25) at Jack Allen Field.

The Lady Evangels romped the Tigers 15-1 in the opener and then hung on for a 12-9 win in the second game to extend their winning streak to five games and put their overall record at 6-6 on the season.

Hart was a perfect 3-of-3 in the first game with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Mykah Smith had a RBI triple in a two-run first inning and Tiphani Napier doubled home two runs to key a four-run second inning.

The Lady Evangels then got a two-run double from Hart and an RBI single by Katie Gracey that sparked a seven-run explosion in the third inning.

An RBI double by Mariah Treat and run-scoring single from Taylor Fowble in the fourth inning finished the scoring for the Lady Evangels.

Macie Crites went four innings for MACU, giving up one unearned run with five strikeouts and no walks. Caitlin Swain then came on and pitched a scoreless fifth inning and struck out one.

Gracey had two hits in the opening game victory and Napier drove in three runs.

The nightcap appeared to be smooth sailing as well when the Lady Evangels busted open a scoreless game with eight runs in the third inning before adding three more in the fourth.

But the Tigers wouldn't go quietly and jumped back into it with a nine-run fifth inning to stay alive.

The Lady Evangels got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and Marki Dethloff blanked the Tigers over the final two innings to pick up the save.

Morgan Wardlow started the second game for the Lady Evangels and had a no-hitter through the first four frames before giving up two earned runs and seven unearned tallies in the fifth inning.  Wardlow struck out five batters in getting the win.

Hart was 2-of-5 with three RBI and Gracey drove in three runs. Napier also had two hits and Osborne had a pair of RBIs.

The Tigers got two RBIs each from Kasi Kraus, Page Huffman and Cristina Insua in the second game.

The Lady Evangels will remain at home and host Sterling College Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) starting at 1 p.m.
