OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University softball head coach Robert Wakefield has announced the early signing of Megan Schmidt for the 2017 season.
Schmidt comes to MACU from Choctaw High School and is a native of Choctaw, Okla. She also competed for an exclusive travel team and was selected to play in the Colorado Fireworks All-Star game in 2015.
Her travel team placed fourth in the Colorado Fireworks tournament in 2012 before coming in second in the Spring Challenge tourney at the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame Stadium in 2014. The squad was also an ASA National Qualifier and recorded a first-place finish in 2015.
A solid student-athlete, Schmidt is a member of the National Honor Society.
"Megan is a young lady that is going to help us at first base," Wakefield said. "She is a hard worker with good work habits and is a great young lady with a good family. We are anxious to get Megan on the field to help her further her career. We are excited to have her as part of our softball family."
Schmidt will be joining a squad that is coming off consecutive winning seasons for the first time since joining the NAIA.
She is the daughter of James and Geneva Schmidt and plans to major in Early Childhood Education at MACU.
