OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian University softball head coach Robert Wakefield recorded his 100th career victory behind two solid pitching performances from Macie Crites and Morgan Wardlow to sweep the Southwestern College (Kan.) Lady Builders today (Mar. 31) by scores of 8-0 and 2-0 at Jack Allen Field.
Crites pitched the opening game win, limiting the Lady Builders to only one hit in her five shutout innings.
Tiphani Napier provided Crites the run support she needed, driving in three runs that included a two-run single in the third to put the Lady Evangels on top.
Napier then capped off a five-run fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that made it 7-0. Taryn Callender drove in the first run of the inning with a successful squeeze bunt that plated Taylor Green. Three more runs scored on a throwing error with one out.
Tiffany Holt then doubled to lead off the fifth and pinch-runner Larissa Tate scored on a wild pitch to close out the win.
The Lady Evangels (17-11) got two hits from Napier, Cassidy Hart and Holt in the opening game win.
The nightcap proved to be a pitcher's duel, as Napier singled home Callender in the bottom of the third for the first run of the game.
MACU then added a valuable insurance run in the sixth when Marki Dethloff singled to begin the inning and pinch-runner Tate scored on an RBI single by Holt.
Wardlow was solid in the second game for the Lady Evangels, lasting the full seven innings and blanking the Lady Builders on only three hits. She gave up only one hit through the first six innings.
Whytleigh Guerrero had two of the three hits for the Lady Builders (8-16).
The Lady Evangels will now turn around and play at Southwestern Assemblies of God University tomorrow afternoon (Apr. 1) at 1 p.m. in Waxahachie, Texas.
