Lady Evangels Slip Past Bacone 5-3 in Second Game to Salvage Doubleheader Split

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels defeated the Bacone College Lady Warriors 5-3 in the second game to salvage a split of the twinbill today (Apr. 12) at Jack Allen Field.  The Lady Warriors took the opener 9-1.

The Lady Evangels jumped on top with three runs in the first inning of the nightcap, as Cassidy Hart hit a lead-off single and crossed the plate on an infield hit from Mykah Smith.

Katie Gracey then doubled home Smith and Marki Dethloff for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Evangels tacked on two more runs in the fifth when Taryn Callender hit an RBI triple to plate Carson Osborne and then scored on a groundout by Hart.

Bacone made things interesting with a run in the fifth and then two more in the sixth to come within two runs.

After Hunter Colburn reached on a one-out error, the next four Lady Warriors singled that led to two runs scored to make it 5-3.

With the bases loaded and still just one out, starter Morgan Wardlow got a strikeout and pop out to escape the jam and keep the Lady Evangels in front.

Macie Crites then came on and retired the Lady Warriors in the seventh inning to pick up the save.

Wardlow struck out three and allowed three runs (two earned) in her six innings to get the win.

Gracey had two hits for the Lady Evangels and Marcel McMoore went three-of-three for Bacone.

Much like the Lady Evangels accomplished in the second game, the Lady Warriors took command early in the opening game with a five-run first inning that was capped by a grand slam by McMoore, who went a combined five-of-five in the two games with five RBIs.

The Lady Warriors added a run in the second and then put it away with three more runs in the fifth.

Hart doubled home Taylor Green in the bottom of the fifth to help the Lady Evangels (22-16, 7-9 SAC) avoid the shutout.

Hart went two-of-three for the Lady Evangels in the first game and Kylar Foshee was also two-of-three with a pair of RBIs for the Lady Warriors (7-33, 4-14 SAC).

The Lady Evangels will remain at home and host Southwestern Assemblies of God University Friday afternoon (Apr. 15) at 1 p.m.

MACU swept SAGU by scores of 9-0 and 8-0 in the earlier meetings this season in Waxahachie, Texas.
