Lady Evangels Win Second Game 5-2 to Gain Split with Lady Rams

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels salvaged a split today (Apr. 16) against the Texas Wesleyan University Lady Rams with a 5-2 win in the second game at Jack Allen Field. The Lady Rams took the opener 4-2.

Tiffany Holt fueled the offense in the nightcap by going three-of-three, including singling home Marki Dethloff as part a four-run first inning that made it 4-1.

The Lady Evangels capitalized on a pair of errors to begin the first inning and a two-run double by Tiphani Napier put MACU on top and an RBI groundout by Carly Castaneda finished the frame.

Bailey Terry hit a two-out, solo homer for the Lady Rams in the second inning to make it 4-2, but that's all they could get against the combination of starter Caitlin Swain and Morgan Wardlow.

Carson Osborne then doubled home Holt for a big insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Swain pitched 4 1/3 effective innings to get the win, striking out four with two runs allowed.

Wardlow then blanked the Lady Rams over the final 2 2/3 innings on only one hit with two strikeouts to pick up her first career save.

Lauren Wernet was the tough luck loser for the Lady Rams, allowing just the four runs in the first inning that were all unearned due to the two miscues.

The opening game was scoreless through the first two innings before each squad got on the board with a run in the third inning.

The Lady Rams scored first on a successful squeeze bunt by Terry and the Lady Evangels (25-17, 10-10 SAC) answered with an RBI single by Mykah Smith in the bottom of the inning.

An RBI single by Lauren Davis in the top of the fourth gave the Lady Rams (21-27, 12-12 SAC) the lead right back and TWU tacked on two more runs in the fifth for a 4-1 cushion.

Cassidy Hart brought the Lady Evangels within two runs with a one-out, solo homer in the bottom of the fifth, but that's all MACU could muster against the Lady Rams' starter Brittany Rosenberry.

Rosenberry pitched the full seven innings and struck out seven to get the win.

Macie Crites started for the Lady Evangels and lasted five innings, with three earned runs allowed and two strikeouts.

Marki Dethloff then came on and shut out the Lady Rams for the final two innings.

Hart was two-of-three at the plate for the Lady Evangels in the second game.

The Lady Evangels will next play at No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 19) at 2 p.m.
