Softball Lady Evangels Swept by Central Baptist in NCCAA Central Regional

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels lost a pair of games to the Central Baptist College Lady Mustangs by scores of 12-2 and 6-1 today (May 10) in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional at Jack Allen Field.

With the wins, the Lady Mustangs advance to the NCCAA World Series in Roanoke, Va.

The opener saw Racquel Westeman key a five-run fifth inning with a bases-clearing double that put the Lady Mustangs in control with a 6-2 lead.

Before CBC's fifth-inning explosion, the Lady Evangels had taken the lead when Tiffany Holt singled Mykah Smith to third base and Smith then preceded to steal home with the go-ahead run.

The Lady Mustangs added a run in the sixth and put it away with five runs in the seventh inning.

Westerman drove in three runs in the first game for the Lady Mustangs, while Joella Bayles had three hits.

Madison Skelton got the win for CBC after allowing two runs (none earned) in four innings. Sara Squires then came on and pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the save.

In the nightcap, the Lady Evangels (26-27) again enjoyed a lead as Holt went to third on a single by Carson Osborne and then scored the game's first run in the second inning on a wild throw.

But a pair of miscues by the Lady Evangels aided a two-run third inning that put the Lady Mustangs (29-30) in front and Westerman and Bayles each singled and scored in a four-run sixth inning for CBC that extended the lead.

Holt and Cassidy Hart each had two hits in the second game for the Lady Evangels, as the hits were even at seven apiece.

Cali Lankford relieved Squires after two innings and pitched two scoreless frames to get the win. Mallory Kirkemier blanked the Lady Evangels over the final three innings for the save.

Morgan Wardlow started for MACU and lasted five innings with two strikeouts and five runs allowed (two earned).
